35 Days in Niger

Among the Hausa, the giraffes, the chariot spiders, the mosquitoes, the mangoes, breathtaking storms of heat lightning, and children who can play a mean game of Velcro catch. One hour’s ride by bush taxi from the village of Konni, four women and their children live by the code of polygamy as a means of survival. In a country with soaring infant mortality rates, strong women come together to form micro loan systems to keep their children healthy. Africa doesn't need to be saved. In fact, it could do some saving of its own.
